"To carry out such works, which are a key element of the ice management system, icebreaker Kapitan Dranitsyn left the port of Murmansk for the summer expedition’s area in the Kara Sea," the statement said, without providing details about technologies used for changing icebergs’ paths.
The expedition will also train the iceberg-platform scenario that presupposes moving an iceberg to a platform.
"In the future, that experience will allow securing sea infrastructure facilities from interaction with icebergs during industrial activities on the Arctic shelf," Rosneft's press service added.
Research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov will deliver construction materials, fuel and equipment for the first Arctic base of Rosneft on the shore of the Laptev Sea’s Khatanga Gulf.
