MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Israel has been laying the blame for every single instance of cross-border fire on the Syrian government, which has been trying to flush rebels out of the nearby hideouts.
"In response to the projectile that hit Israel yesterday evening, IAF targeted artillery positions of Syrian Regime in Syrian Golan Heights," the statement by the IDF spokesperson read.
The IDF was cited as saying by the Jerusalem Post newspaper that it would take action against the Syrian government’s "attempts to hurt the sovereignty" of the Israeli state.
Israel occupied a part of the Golan Heights during the 1967 war and has been administering it alongside other territories in the West Bank for almost half a century.
