"We have been looking into the Trump Foundation to make sure it's complying with the laws governing charities in New York," Schneiderman told CNN on Tuesday.
Schneiderman explained he is a regulator of non-profits in the state and his interest has been aroused because of concerns the Trump Foundation "may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view."
Earlier on Tuesday, Democrats on the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee sent a letter to US Attorney General Loretta Lynch asking her to investigate the Trump Foundation.
The congressmen noted they were concerned about a payment Trump made to a political organization supporting Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi shortly before her office decided not to join a lawsuit against Trump University.
