President Barack Obama nominated four individuals to serve as the US representatives to the upcoming 71st Session of the UN General Assembly, the White House said in a press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Obama has chosen Democratic Senator Chris Coons from the US state of Delaware and Republican Senator Ron Johnson of the US state of Wisconsin as his two representatives.

Valerie Biden Owens, who is currently an Executive Vice President at Joe Slade White and Company, and Cynthia Ryan, who is the Director of the Schooner Africa Fund, were named as Alternate Representatives.

"I am pleased to announce that these experienced and committed individuals have decided to serve our country," Obama is quoted as saying in the release. "I look forward to working with them."

The 71st Session of the UN General Assembly started earlier on Tuesday.
