WikiLeaks claims the posters are being displayed in US military bases across the world.

The transparency organization’s founder Julian Assange and NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden are among the most wanted individuals in the world for their respective roles in exposing the secrets of the US government.

After revealing the extent of Washington’s global and domestic spying apparatus, Snowden currently resides in Moscow, while Assange has been forced to remain in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid extradition for leaking documents obtained by Army private Chelsea Manning.

Perhaps it should come as no surprise, then, that the US government appears to have financed the creation of a bizarre pair of posters.

Describing the publisher as “The Hack Behind WikiLeaks,” the Assange poster lists him as an “Australian activist and editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, a website that publishes submissions of secret information, news leaks, and classified media from anonymous sources and whistleblowers.”

The second poster in the “Espionage Series” describes Snowden as the one who “Spilled the Beans and Ran.”

“Federal prosecutors have charged Snowden with theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information, and willful communication of classified intelligence with an unauthorized person.”

While WikiLeaks attributed the posters to the US Defense Security Service, this has not been verified. Sputnik reached out to the DoD for comment, but has received no explanation.

If they are, in fact, real, the purpose of the posters remains unclear, given that the whereabouts of both men are very commonly known.
