MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Syrian government forces have completely halted fire in line with the latest ceasefire agreement except in areas where they are fighting the Daesh and Nusra Front terrorists, the Russian General Staff said Tuesday.
"The Syrian government troops have fully halted fire, with exception of areas where Islamic State and Nusra Front terrorists are operating," Lt. Gen. Viktor Poznikhir, first deputy chief of the General Staff's Main Operational Department, said in video conference call.
"Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about armed groups of the US-backed 'moderate opposition,' which have shelled residential areas and Syrian army positions 23 times since the introduction of the new ceasefire regime," Poznikhir said.
Lt. Col. Sergei Kopytsin, a representative of the Hmeymim-based Russian reconciliation center for Syria, said in the same conference call that 'moderate opposition' militants violated ceasefire in Aleppo five times during the night, killing six and wounding 10 people.
