ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish humanitarian convoy of 20 trucks crossed the Syrian border and is heading for for Aleppo, local media reported Tuesday.
On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey planned to send a humanitarian convoy to the Syrian city of Aleppo when a Russian-US ceasefire agreement took effect.
The convoy carrying food, clothing and toys for inhabitants of northern Aleppo passed through the town of Reyhanli in southern Turkish Hatay province, the NTV broadcaster reported.
On September 9, US State Secretary John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced a new peace plan to address the conflict in Syria that called for a ceasefire to come into force on Monday. If the new ceasefire in Syria lasts for seven days, the United States and Russia will work together to establish a joint implementation center.
