"Servicemen of US Army's 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team will replace their counterparts and will further implement NATO's obligations to strengthen protection of the eastern flank. US troops will train in Lithuania until February, 2017," the statement reads.
According to the Defense Ministry, the rotation will be carried out as part of international military exercises dubbed Saber Strike held by NATO countries in the Baltic region. The 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team is stationed in Vicenza, Italy.
US troops have been conducting rotation in the Baltic countries and Poland since spring of 2014 as part the US-led NATO Operation Atlantic Resolve. US troops are embedded with the Mechanized Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" in the Lithuanian town of Rukla.
The town also hosts military equipment, including Stryker armored fighting vehicles, armored SUVs and trucks. Belgian, Danish, Luxembourger, Portuguese, Hungarian and German troops have also taken part in joint drills.
In August, the United States and the Baltic countries conformed their commitment to enhance defense cooperation.
