MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Health problems prevent former USSR President Mikhail Gorbachev from attending the upcoming September Prague security conference, one of the conference organizers Milan Syrucek said Wednesday.
"Unfortunately, due to his health conditions, Mikhail Sergeevich [Gorbachev] will not be able to come to Prague to participate in the conference, which his foundation helped organize. As we were told, early in the morning today Gorbachev had a health crisis, the doctors were invited, who forbade him from leaving Moscow for a few weeks," Syrucek told RIA Novosti.
The conference will bring together political science researchers, journalists, scientists and politicians who had influenced Europe in the recent past.
Syrucek, who is a Czech journalist, plans to present his book about Mikhail Gorbachev's role in preventing massacre during the Czech revolution of 1989 at the conference.
