"We regard this decision as an important concrete step aimed at consolidating the ‘silence’ regime declared by the parties in connection with the September 1 new school year, at stabilizing the situation in the conflict zone and eventually at peaceful settlement in southeastern Ukraine in accordance with the Minsk agreements," the ministry said in a statement.
It called on Kiev to reciprocate Donetsk and Luhansk’s initiative "so that the ceasefire along the line of contact takes on a durable long-term nature."
"We hope that our partners in the Normandy format support this step, and the OSCE SMM for its part provides the practical assistance for total silence to prevail there," the ministry stressed, using the acronym for the European security organization's special monitoring mission.
