PRETORIA (Sputnik) — Russia is interested in opening a maintenance center for tanks and small arms in South Africa, Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Deputy Director Anatoly Punchuk said Wednesday.
"We are interested in setting up service centers for maintenance of Russian- and Soviet-produced armored vehicles and rifle armaments using South Africa resources," Punchuk told journalists at the Africa Aerospace and Defense Expo in Pretoria, South Africa.
Punchuk recalled that in 2013 Russian Helicopters arms manufacturer opened a service center for civilian aircraft in South Africa which currently is being prepped to add maintenance service for military helicopters.
