BEIJING (Sputnik) – The launch is scheduled for 10:04 p.m. local time (14:04 GMT), the Xinhua news agency reported.
Tiangong-2 is expected to carry out 14 types of experiments concentrating on space materials and space life. The station also serves as a precursor to a future permanent manned space station, which China plans to put into operation in 2022.
China is actively developing its space program launching a number of scientific missions including sending the Yutu (Jade Rabbit) rover to the Moon in 2013, that became the first rover landed on the Earth’s satellite since mid-1970s.
