LONDON (Sputnik) – Although no formal decision has been made yet, British Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to give the go-ahead for the project on September 15, which is the last possible day for a statement to parliament before the recess of the lower house, the newspaper said on Wednesday citing Downing Street sources.
According to The Guardian, the United Kingdom is expected to seek a better deal with China on electricity prices and to impose new conditions on the French and Chinese bankers.
The Hinkley Point power plant project for the construction of the country’s first reactor in decades at a location in southwest England has been lagging behind schedule and struggling to secure investment, despite companies in France and China having expressed interest in funding it.
The nuclear power plant is expected to meet 7 percent of UK energy needs once it starts operating.
