"I think that 9/11 was [then-US Vice President Dick] Cheney’s Kristallnacht," Caldicott said, referring to the "Night of Broken Glass" in 1938 when attacks on Jews across Nazi Germany precipitated the Holocaust. "There are so many things unexplained."
By September 12, the day after the attacks, the US government knew the identities of the 19 men who hijacked the four aircraft because they had left their passports in their cars, Caldicott recalled authorities saying at the time.
"Fifteen of the hijackers were Saudis and four were Egyptians, [yet] they [US officials] never have released the vital documents regarding the Saudi involvement," she said. "Was there a deal, and why?"
"Building 7 came down [in] late afternoon for no apparent reason. It was clearly imploded, I think, like the other two [buildings], as most structural engineers and architects will say," she observed.
The Australian-born Caldicott, who formerly headed Physicians for Social Responsibility, a Nobel Peace Prize-winning group, also questioned whether a hijacked airliner really crashed into the Pentagon outside Washington, DC. She said a missile might have caused the damage to the building.
"There was absolutely no evidence that a plane went into the Pentagon; no parts [were] recovered. It almost certainly was a missile," she asserted.
Caldicott also pointed out that numerous relatives of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden were secretly flown out of the United States on September 12, 2001 even though all civilian air traffic had been grounded for security reasons.
"They [authorities] said they never found the remains of [that] plane … because they said it was buried too deeply in the soil," Caldicott said.
Caldicott stressed that the US military moved to its second-highest state of readiness in response to the attacks, potentially putting the country on the brink of launching a thermonuclear war.
"DefCon went from ‘5’ to ‘2’ that day, the highest state of alert before launch. That was removed from Stratcom’s [the US Strategic Command] website soon after, but I saw it," she stated.
"Thus was immediately instigated the national security state, which has brought millions to Halliburton, private security companies and others; lucrative wars for the military-industrial complex in the Middle East; and over 1 million killed in Iraq, including 500,000 children," she concluded.
Caldicott is the author of several books, including "The New Nuclear Danger: George W. Bush’s Military Industrial Complex" and "War in Heaven:" The Arms Race in Outer Space." The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC has named her one of the most influential women of the 20th century.
