Paris Supports Moscow's Stance on Making Russia-US Syria Peace Deal Public
12:21 GMT 17.09.2016 (Updated: 11:15 GMT 06.08.2022) French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault has voiced support of Russia's stance on making the recent Russia-US agreements on the Syrian settlement public, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Ayrault held a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"The heads of the foreign ministries of Russia and France discussed the situation in Syria. Jean-Marc Ayrault welcomed the Russia-US agreements reached on September 9 and expressed support of Russia's stance on making these documents public," the statement read.
17 September 2016, 11:19 GMT
On September 9, Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a new peace plan to address the five-year conflict in Syria. The ceasefire stipulated by the agreement came into force on September 12. Humanitarian access, along with seven days of reduced violence, are some of the conditions of the US-Russia deal.
On Friday, Lavrov told Kerry in a phone call that the entire package of the US-Russia agreements on Syria should be made public. However, US State Department spokesperson John Kirby stated in a briefing on Friday that the United States was still not prepared to publicly release the details of the US-Russia negotiated Syria ceasefire agreement.
