BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — On September 26-27, an informal defense ministers' meeting will be held in Bratislava to discuss a number of security challenges the bloc is facing.
"It is expected that the ministers would discuss the possibilities to unite their capabilities in the sphere of defense," the source said.
On Friday, the leaders of 27 EU member states met in Bratislava. According to media reports, Berlin and Paris proposed a plan on the creation of a common military force at the meeting.
The plans to merge the existing defense structures of the EU member states into a single army have been under discussion for years but never came to existence, partly due to the opposition from the United Kingdom, which has advocated that NATO should ensure the bloc's security. London's decision to exit the European Union has revived the talks.
