SEVASTOPOL (Sputnik) – The Gepard 3.9, an export version of Gepard-class Project 1166.1 frigates, may be used in wartime to resist the engagement of enemy aircraft, ships and submarines; conducting escort missions; carrying out of patrol duties; providing fire support to landing missions and mine-laying.
"Two Gepard 3.9 frigates will arrive in the Black Sea by early October to pass final trials that will complete before the end of the year. After the tests, the ships will be delivered to the customer," the official said.
In peacetime, the vessel built at the A.M. Gorky Zelenodolsk Plant can be used for guarding and patrolling maritime state borders and exclusive economic zones as well as supporting sea operations.
