UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova told Sputnik on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday that one of her main prerogatives, if elected as UN secretary-general, would be to promote gender equality.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — When asked what would be her main priorities if elected UN chief, Bokova said, "Gender equality."

Bokova is one of the leading candidates for the post of the UN secretary-general that is due for reelection this year.
