MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Hollywood star and Oscar winner Nicolas Cage said Tuesday he loves Russian literature though he realizes Fyodor Dostoevsky’s works in translation are losing "true poetry."
"I read Russian literature, I love Dostoevsky's ‘Brothers Karamazov,’ particularly brother Dmitry Karamazov… I had compassion to that character, I related to that character," Cage said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency's press center in Moscow.
The actor admitted that he was always aware of the fact that meanings are lost in translation.
"I always want to know what Dostoevsky had in mind, I never feel like I am getting a true poetry of Dostoevsky," he said.
Cage added said he was really impressed with some Russian films.
"I really liked the movie called Leviathan. I found it heart-breaking and beautiful. Earlier, I loved Solaris," he said.
Cage, who starred in US war drama USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage, is currently on his first Moscow visit to present the movie.
