BAGHDAD (Sputnik) — The Iraqi parliament has passed a motion of no confidence against Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari, who is suspected of corruption, one of the lawmakers told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"Parliament voted in favor of no-confidence toward Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari," the lawmaker from The State of Law Coalition, Rahab al-Ubudah, said, adding that 158 out of 328 Iraqi lawmakers voted in favor of sacking the minister.
Zebari, of Kurdish origin, took the finance minister office in 2014. He has also been the Iraqi deputy prime minister since 2014.
In late August, the Iraqi parliament sacked Defense Minister Khalid Obeidi over similar corruption concerns.
