MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Czech authorities have not provided any information regarding a Russian citizen wanted by Interpol on the Russian Interior Ministry’s request, the head of the consular department at the Russian Embassy in the Czech Republic said Wednesday.
Czech media reported Tuesday about the detention of Oleg Vorotnikov, leader of Russia’s Voina ("War") art collective, during a routine document inspection in Prague on September 18.
"Our information is the same as in the press. We have not received any official information from the Czech authorities. We are expecting it now," Andrei Vasilyev told RIA Novosti.
Voina is notorious for a number of controversial acts dating back to 2008. Vorotnikov, 38, has reportedly applied for asylum with his family in Switzerland. Prague now faces a decision whether to extradite him to Russia or allow his return to Bern.
