UN Chief: Replacing Israel-Palestine Two-State Solution Would be 'Madness'
UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Israel would resist any attempts of the United Nations to dictate terms of the Israeli-Palestinian settlement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday.

"Does anyone really believe that Israel will let the UN determine our security and our vital national interests? We will not accept any attempt by the UN to dictate terms to Israel. The road to peace runs through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not through New York," Netanyahu said, addressing the United Nations General Assembly.

According to the Israeli prime minister, opposition to Israel in the United Nations is fading out as many countries are changing their attitude toward the country.

"I have one message for you today. Lay down your arms. The war against Israel in the United Nations is over, perhaps someone of you do not know it yet," Netanyahu said.

Relations between Israel and Palestine have been shattered for decades. Palestinians seek diplomatic recognition for their independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which is partially occupied by Israel, and the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government refuses to recognize Palestine as an independent political and diplomatic entity, and builds settlements on the occupied areas, despite objections from the United Nations.
