DJs, clubbers and music promoters lamented the decision as another nail in the coffin for London's night life, while mayor Sadiq Khan launched a new night tube service with critics predicting empty carriages.
But with a whisker of superiority and a slightly damp nose, a new festival is about to be launched in London in an attempt to prevent it from being "swept under the rug of big money, developers, and city councillors who can't stand the thought of their children going out and having fun."

Make way for Catnip, the first ever feline focused festival to feature the best cat videos.
The festival will be dedicated to the Internet's favorite pet, complete with a cat gymnasium, a cabaret, games and DJ sets.
Cat Currency
The idea for the festival was born after James Elphick, creative director spent time sending his friend who had moved abroad cat videos. His friend responded, but sending him cat videos back.
"It became like currency, and we thought it was time we spread the wealth," Elphick said.
"We soon discovered we both had a passion for cat videos, and before long it seemed that each of us had a repertoire of videos to describe every situation."

The festival is heading to London for winter where if you fancy becoming a VIP — a very important pussy — it'll cost you US$649.00
"We would like people to have an evening of indulgence in a simple, clean vice that has no ill effects."
But missing from the guest list are cats themselves. The organizers, Third Mind Productions suggests loud music, bright flashing lights are the last thing a fussy feline would fancy.
