WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Former Republican presidential candidate and US Senator Ted Cruz said in a Facebook message on Friday he will cast his vote for party’s presidential nominee Donald Trump in the US general election on November 8.
"After many months of careful consideration, of prayer and searching my own conscience, I have decided that on Election Day, I will vote for the Republican nominee, Donald Trump," Cruz stated.
Cruz explained he decided to support Trump because of his promise to support the Republican nominee no matter who that person was, and also because he always felt that Democratic-rival Hillary Clinton was an unacceptable choice.
Cruz noted the United States is in crisis and electing Clinton would harm millions of Americans, while Trump is the only person standing in her way.
The senator from Texas added that six policy issues played a role in his decision as well, including Trump’s stand on internet freedom, national security and immigration.
