MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The solid-fuel missile, which was first unveiled just days ago, has a range of 700 kilometers (430 miles) and has a high-precision guidance system, the IRNA news agency reported.
The production launch ceremony was attended by Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan, who stressed that the new missile will enhance Iran's missile capabilities, according to the media outlet.
The Zolfaqar missile was first displayed on Wednesday in the port city of Bandar Abbas at a military parade amid Sacred Defense Week celebrations that mark an annual commemoration of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.
The missile reportedly carries a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) payload, enabling each missile to hit an entire group of targets.
