MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — Shown live by the Telesur channel, the ceremony is taking place in the Colombian city of Cartagena and is being attended by numerous foreign guests.
The agreement was signed by Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and FARC commander in chief Rodrigo Londono Echeverri, nicknamed Timochenko.
The signing was done with special pens made from bullet shells. This symbolizes a transition from violence to education and a new future for the country, according to the Colombian leader.
All those attending are draped in white clothes as a sign of peace, with Cartagena's central square also decorated with white flags.
