MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In 2015, Slovakia initiated negotiations about leasing of JAS-39 Gripen multirole fighter aircraft with Sweden to replace the MiG-2 jets produced over 25 years ago in the Soviet Union.
"There are real chances that the agreement will be signed by the end of the year," Sobotka was quoted as saying by the Teraz news portal on Monday.
According to the Czech prime minister, cooperation of the two countries on the airspace protection may have an impact on the types of fighters Slovakia will use to defend the airspace of the republic.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said earlier in the day that the government was expecting a plan of development of the Slovak Air Force from new Defense Minister Peter Gajdos.
