WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Shells fired by Daesh militants on the Qayarrah airbase in Iraq on September 20 contained no mustard gas agent, Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman John Dorrian said in a statement on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, the US Department of Defense said the Qayarrah base came under attack with shells that contained a chemical agent, but no US service members demonstrated symptoms of mustard gas exposure.

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford said on Thursday that the shells had been assessed to contain a sulfur mustard blister agent.
Earlier in September, the US-led coalition against Daesh destroyed a pharmaceutical plant that was part of the terror group’s chemical weapons network in Iraq.
