WASHINGTON, September 29 (Sputnik) — Sanders introduced Clinton at the event in his home state of New Hampshire, where they unveiled the final Democratic proposal for free tuition at state-run colleges and universities in the United States.
"The tuition-free plan will apply to public colleges and universities no matter where a student comes from," Clinton said at a rally on Wednesday, where she was joined by her former rival, US Senator Bernie Sanders.
Clinton explained many state-run institutions of higher education focus recruitment efforts on applicants from other states and foreign countries, because they can be charged much higher tuition than local students.
"We reached an agreement that says that every [American] family that is earning $ 125,000 or less… should be able to send their kids to public schools and universities tuition-free," Sanders said of the plan.
New Hampshire has the second highest level of student debt in America, according to New Hampshire’s Higher Education Assistance Foundation.
Sanders first proposed free tuition while running for the Democratic presidential nomination. After besting Sanders in the primary election contest, Clinton embraced the Sanders plan.
