WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, local media reported that a US drone strike in Achin district could have killed at least 13 civilians. According to the Pajhwok news agency, 18 Daesh terrorists including their commander, Hamza, were also killed in the strike.
"We are aware of some claims of Afghan casualties, and are currently reviewing all materials related to this strike," Cleveland stated on Wednesday. "We are continuing to look into these allegations and will provide additional information as appropriate."
The spokesman added that US forces in Afghanistan take all allegations of civilian casualties "very seriously."
Afghanistan is in a state of political and social turmoil, with government forces fighting the continuing Taliban insurgency, while other extremist groups, such as Daesh terrorists have also expanded their activities both in the country and in neighboring states.
