MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's Pacific Fleet anti-submarine corvettes have carried out exercises on detecting and destroying a simulated enemy submarine as part of the ongoing drills off the coast of the Sakhalin Island in Russia's Far East, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry's Eastern Military District said Wednesday.
"The Pacific Fleet's anti-submarine ship strike group has conducted exercises during which the crews of the Koreyets and the Sovetskaya Gavan anti-submarine corvettes practiced a set of tasks on searching for a simulated enemy submarine and destroying it," Vladimir Matveev said.
The simulated target submarine was destroyed with bombs and torpedoes, he added, noting that warship crews also carried out live firing involving naval and air targets as well as practiced various tasks on board their vessels.
