WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —Earlier in September, US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton blasted Russia for allegedly meddling in the US election in favor of Trump, citing "credible reports" that, she claimed, link Moscow to the Democratic National Committee (DNC) email dump by WikiLeaks.
Moscow has repeatedly denied accusations of state-sponsored data breaches against US systems as well as any interest in meddling in the internal affairs of the United States.
"We are doing an awful lot of work through our counterintelligence investigators to understand just what mischief is Russia up to in connection with our election," Comey testified. "That’s a part of our work we don’t talk about an awful lot, but it’s at the core of the FBI."
In July, the DNC server was hacked and the contents were released through WikiLeaks, revealing a sustained effort of top Democratic Party officials to undermine the campaign of US Senator Bernie Sanders in favor of giving the party’s presidential nomination to Clinton.
