The politician stressed that peace in Syria can only be made possible through negotiations between the major powers.
"Russia should be a part of a peaceful solution. There is a need for agreement between the US, Russia and regional powers like Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia," Hunko told Sputnik, adding that there is no alternative to the peace talks.
"I would like to hear the opinion of the German Justice concerning the supply of arms to Saudi Arabia and Qatar," Hunko stated.
Hunko's colleague and fellow Left Party member Wolfgang Gehrke also commented on the Syrian conflict in an interview with Sputnik.
"I've always had the impression that Daesh, the al-Nusra Front and other Islamist organizations have received money via Turkey, the US, Saudi Arabia and Qatar to acquire weapons," he said.
In order to end the war in Syria, one should immediately sign "a temporary truce that would allow the population to leave the eastern part of the city of Aleppo. [We also need] the suppression of any cash flows and weapons supplies to ensure peace in Syria."
