To lure these exceptionally timid animals, one needs to simulate a buck’s roar, according to the champion Hans Günter Kisse, who used to be an avid hunter.
“I'm done with hunting down deer. I just enjoy it when my roar attracts them,” Kisse told Sputnik Germany.
However, this year Hans Günter Kisse decided not to perform as the preparations require a lot of time and effort.
“One needs to train hard, and these exercises harm one’s voice,” Kisse told Sputnik Germany.
In his place, his daughter has stepped up to defend her father’s title.
Tips and Tricks
The rules of the contest allow participants to use auxiliary aids, similar to when hunting in the wild.
“It can be anything that increases the resonance of the call. That is any hollow body frame such as pipes,” Kisse told Sputnik Germany.
One of Kisse’s friends revealed his own secret to imitate the roar of a deer. He says that the cardboard roll from a paper towel is exactly what you need to talk to the animals.
