PARIS (Sputnik) — The French authorities have decided to strengthen the security at the residence of President Francois Hollande — the Elysee Palace — due to the potential threat of new terrorist attacks, local media reported, citing an internal Paris police order.
“Intelligence agencies have reported a serious risk of terrorist attacks on the Elysee Palace,” the order said, as quoted by the RTL radio station.
According to the media, the potential attack could be carried out by suicide bombers.
The security measures to counter the possible terror act reportedly include the deployment of additional police officers to Hollande’s residence and arming them with submachine guns.
In the past year, France saw a number of deadly terrorist attacks, with the most deadly of them – the November attacks in Paris – claiming 130 lives. Following the November attacks, a state of emergency was declared in the country.
