A group of militants, that attacked India's base in Uri, according to New Delhi crossed into India-administered northern Kashmir territory from Pakistan. In the wake of the attack, Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh called for isolation of Pakistan from the international community as a state supporting terrorist groups avoiding direct allegations of Pakistani involvement in the Sunday attack. Islamabad claimed to be not implicated in the attack.
On Thursday, the Indian forces conducted "surgical strikes" against suspected positions of terrorists in the disputed areas of Kashmir region under the Pakistani control.
India and Pakistan have been engulfed into a dispute over the Jammu and Kashmir regions for decades. Tensions between them escalated in July after Indian security forces killed Burhan Wani, a renowned separatist commander.
