MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia and other allies of Syria are trying to keep the Syrian Arab Republic undivided and bring the situation in the war-torn country back to normal, Syrian Information Minister Ramez Tarjaman told Sputnik Friday.
"Russia is playing a very important role in the region, which is leading to stability and to a lasting peace, as a result," Tarjaman said adding that Russia, as well as Syria's other allies "are striving to preserve the united geography of the country," while "the aggressors" are threatening Syria's territorial integrity.
Syria is engulfed in an armed conflict between the government forces loyal to the president, the so-called moderate opposition and extremist groups, including Daesh and Nusra Front, now known as Jabhat Fateh al Sham, both outlawed in Russia and other countries. The recent peace deal brokered by Moscow and Washington in early September failed to reconcile the warring sides.
