“We think that the supreme humanitarian interest requires any cooperation and coordination among all the countries and powers with the aim to combat terrorism… What is important here, is that different sides express seriousness and credibility regarding the resolution of this issue, the things that were absent in the implementation of the last Russia-US-brokered deal, where the US side was not serious and was reluctant to carry out the agreement,” the ministry's press office said.
The ministry urged Russia and the United States to finally work out a full-fledged and lasting agreement that would put an end to the suffering of Syrian people.
"We are striving here, in Syria, to a day that will bring the Russian and US sides to an agreement which will unite the anti-terrorism efforts in accordance with the international law and with the respect of national sovereignty," it added.
On September 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry brokered a ceasefire in Syria that took effect three days later. Under the agreement, if the ceasefire had held for a week, then Russia and the United States would have opened a joint operations center meant to target the Islamic State and Fateh al-Sham (previously known as al-Nusra Front) terrorists. However, the US-led coalition hit the Syrian Arab Army's positions in Deir ez-Zor province on the seventh day after the agreement took effect. It followed the announcement by the army that the deal had collapsed.
