ANKARA (Sputnik) — A total of 15 members of the Syrian opposition Free Syrian Army (FSA) militants supported by Turkish troops were killed and 35 were injured in clashes with Daesh in northern Syria, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement on Monday.

"The Free Syrian Army has lost 15 servicemen and 25 were injured in fights with Daesh," the statement of the Turkish General Staff, obtained by RIA Novosti said.

According to the statement, the "moderate opposition" armed forces now control 960 square kilometers in northern Syria.

"The Turkish armed forces hit 63 targets, having fired 201 shots from Firtina howitzers and 100 from multiple launch rocket systems," the statement added.

Since the beginning of the Turkish armed forces' Euphrates Shield operation, 1,720 terrorist targets have been destroyed, according to the statement.

The statement also said that Daesh militants fired at the city of Kilis in southeastern Turkey from multiple launch rocket systems. Turkish artillery reportedly fired back 39 shots from Firtina howitzers and multiple launch rocket systems, destroying Daesh positions.

On August 24, the Euphrates Shield operation was launched by the Turkish army with support of US-led coalition aircraft to clear the Syrian border town of Jarablus and the surrounding area of the Daesh jihadist group, outlawed in Russia and many other countries. Following the move, Syrian Kurds and Damascus accused Ankara of violating Syria's territorial integrity.
