MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the agency, the typhoon is supposed to slam into Okinawa islands in the afternoon and then move on to the Honshu island. Okinawa inhabitants are warned of floods, strong wind with the speed up to 49.7 mph, and thunderstorms.
Meteorologists consider high tide, torrential rains and wind the biggest threats to the residents and recommend staying in, while more than 590,000 people in the prefecture are preparing for a possible evacuation.
Earlier in the day, authorities issued a recommendation for over 8,000 to evacuate urgently from the Japanese Kume Island, where schools, government bodies and transport stopped work.
