MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandr Gorovoy told on Monday the Executive Committee of the High Commissioner’s Programme (ExCom) about Russian experience of dealing with the refugee issue.
"Taking into account localization of the conflicts in the Middle East region, Aleksandr Gorovoy reminded the audience about the unique experience of our country in the work of competent agencies on accepting asylum seekers in Russia including those from Syria and Afghanistan," the ministry’s press service said.
The official highly assessed Russian cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which is especially important amid the situation in eastern Ukraine.
Gorovoy added that Russia attached importance to boosting international cooperation in the sphere of protecting refugees and migrants.
