MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia will continue using its influence in the UN Security Council at crisis settlement efforts and hopes that diplomacy prevails during its presidency of the 15-member council, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday.
"Of course, Russia will continue to use its influence and the most important tool of international politics — the UN Security Council — to continue international efforts to resolve crises dominating the entire agenda," Peskov told reporters.
Following Russia's assumption of the UN Security Council presidency on October 1, the spokesman expressed hope that little would change and diplomacy would prevail, evoking the US envoy's recent "barbarism" remarks addressed at Russia.
"Another thing is that we would like to expect discussions to be conducted in line with diplomatic tradition in the tradition of good tone, without slipping into national biased hysteria," Peskov underscored.
