MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian military delivered food and clothes as part of humanitarian aid from Armenia to people in war-torn Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.
"The military transport aircraft Il-76 of the Russian Defense Ministry, which took off from the Erebuni airfield in Armenia, delivered to the Hmeymim airbase about 40 tonnes of canned foods, vegetables, baked goods, flour, sugar," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The military will soon give out the food and clothes to the population of Syrian cities ravaged by the conflict between government forces, opposition and terrorist groups, that has been going on for nearly five and a half years.
On Sunday, Russia delivered more than 6 metric tons of humanitarian aid to Syria's provinces of Damascus, Hama and Latakia.
