NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe condemned the cross border terrorism emanating from Pakistan and said that dialogue is the best option.
"Cross border terrorism is a big issue in The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and we will discuss how to tackle it. We are also affected by terrorism. I don't think war is an option. Your Prime Minister has taken a lot of steps to diffuse tensions," Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said during a press conference after meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Wickremesinghe further added that, "We discussed this issue at length," referring to his meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
Sri Lanka had supported India's call to boycott the SAARC Summit due to the continued incidents of cross border terrorism. The SAARC Summit was to be held in Islamabad later this month.
Ranil Wickremesinghe is in India on a three-day visit. Earlier today he met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and held discussions on various bilateral and regional issues. Wickremesinghe also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
