MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UK Minister for the Middle East Tobias Ellwood expressed strong condemnation over Israel's announcement to build a new settlement near the town of Shilo in the West Bank, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office said Wednesday.
"We condemn the recent announcement of plans to construct a new settlement near Shilo. This is the latest example of a series of worrying new settlement announcements in recent months," Ellwood said in a statement.
The minister stressed that settlements were illegal under international law and such initiatives complicated the issue of the disputed territory.
Shilo is located in the northern West Bank, the territory west of the Jordan River. The settlement borders both the Palestinian villages and the Israeli settlements.
