WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — "Governor Pat McCrory has declared a State of Emergency for all 100 counties in order to provide the necessary assistance to eastern North Carolina and surrounding states as Hurricane Matthew approaches," the press release stated on Thursday.

On Monday, the governor declared a state of emergency for 66 counties in the eastern and central portion of the state.

The release noted that adding the additional counties will allow more resources to be used from across the state and help support evacuees who head further inland.

The category four storm is expected to head up the east coast of the United States to North Carolina before turning southwest.
