WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentences of 102 people convicted of drug crimes, the White House said in a press release on Thursday.
"Today, the President granted commutation of sentence to… 102 individuals," the release stated.
Most of the inmates were convicted of non-violent drug crimes and sentenced to more than a decade in prison. Twenty-three individuals were sentenced to life terms.
With Thursday’s announcement, Obama has commuted the prison sentences of 775 individuals.
