Georgian Dream Party Ahead in Elections Scoring Over 53% of Votes

The ruling Georgian Dream Party has scored 53.42 percent of votes to take the lead in the country's parliamentary elections, Georgia's Central Election Commission (CEC) said on Sunday, after counting 11.43 percent of ballots.

TBILISI (Sputnik) — "The Georgian Dream [party] scores 53.42 percent of votes, or 66,642 ballots, the United National Movement scores 24.69 percent of votes which is 30,807 ballots," the CEC statement said.

According to the CEC statement, other parties have not managed to cross the five-percent threshold so far.

On Saturday, Georgia elected its legislature in accordance with the mixed voting system. According to Georgia's legislation, 77 lawmakers are elected proportionately to the share of votes given to parties' lists and 73 parliamentarians are elected in single-mandate electoral districts.
