LAUSANNE (Sputnik) – The summit is attended by the IOC president, Thomas Bach, and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) head, Craig Reedie, while Russia is being represented by the Russian Olympic Committee president, Alexander Zhukov.
The doping scandal, simmering since 2014, escalated in July when WADA presented a report accusing Russia of running a state-wide doping program and urging IOC to consider a blanket ban on the entire Russian team. The IOC instead opted to let individual sports federations decide on the matter.
In turn, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) banned all Russian Paralympic athletes from the 2016 Summer Paralympics and 2018 Winter Games.
The IPC president, Philip Craven, who has also been invited, told journalists in Lausanne that the issue of the Russian national team participation in the Paralympics 2018 would be discussed at the summit.
