WARSAW (Sputnik) – About a thousand of Polish teachers took to the streets of the country's capital Warsaw to protest against the education reform, which they believe will lead to mass dismissals and a decrease in the quality of education, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported Monday.
The Polish government suggests introducing division of educational establishments into elementary schools, lyceums and technical schools, while eliminating gymnasiums and vocational schools, since 2017.
Polish Education Minister Anna Zalewska met with representatives of teachers' unions on Monday morning. Both parties expressed their readiness for a dialog, but Slawomir Broniarz, head of the Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP), said after the meeting that the minister was focused solely on economic issues, without touching upon the education reform in general.
